Another example is this:
Rightfully pointed out by Feldon overhere.
I am not impressed at all by the postbit. Somehow it feels like a real step backwards instead of forwards. But, with IB 'running' this once respected company... the overall sheme of things is a BIG step backwards, this week has proven.Signature test :)Comment

I certainly agree with you. The style presented by former lead developer Kier looks much better then what IB is selling to us now with vB 4.0
Look at this:
<cut>
2 obvious things immediately noticed:
1: The quoted text doesn't look at all like a quoted text. It does not stand apart from the posting and makes the posting harder to read.
2: The 'edited by'-text has the same problem: it is part of the contents of the posting and makes the posting cluttered with information that should be devided from the posting. Just like vB3 does it.
I am not happy with the way this looks by default. The screenshots by Kier looked very promising, but this doesn't. Hopefully more people see it this way and it can be improved for the final release.
It's hard to please everybody, but my personal preference goes to Kier's version, which looked young in setup, but promising once completed.Comment

Where is the graphical/presentational evolvement?
I share your opinion. However, the new layout/design has things I really like over the previews, and Kier's version has quite a bit that I would rather see in the new theme.

I don't know which kind of people were in the Alpha team (graphical designers/UI specialists?), but it is a really dissapointing result this new postbit. The new coloursheme looks very dull/bland compared to the fresh and vibrant colours Kier used. His design was an logical modern evolvement on the 3.x theme, and this new offering looks like a de-volvement.... really a step backwards instead of a natural step forward.
I am so sorry to sound and be so negative this week, but I really am. A result of the outrage caused by IB this week and a result of what I see in the screenshots. The first time in the history of vBulletin then I am not proud at all to use this product further. Everything seems so unprofessional. The way things are 'handled' this week and how their new 'comic' frontpage looks and this same feeling I see reflected in the new postbit. I know it's Alpha, and I know one can change the colourscheme to it's own likings, but come on... is this a postbit what we expect of a 2009 modern application? IB keeps amazing me, unfortunately not in a positive manner.
You see, if the application looked fantastic, then I would even consider to renew my license (if IB can get their act together with the vapourware discount debacle). But if this is what vB 4.0 will eventually look like, I am not even motivated to buy it, purely based on the looks of it.How much do you love XenForo?Comment

Design is a very individual science, what one user thinks is great another will not like, however in my humble opinion:
When I looked at Kier's screenshots my initial thoughts were " Wow that looks superb!" the way he emphasized certain things and de - emphasized others was very usable the layout the same, unfortunately my thoughts when I looked at the recent vB4 screenshots were not the same.
Kier's designs were very clean and professional and would stand up against any of the "paid for" forum scripts out there.
The newer design is sadly not even as fresh looking as some of the free scripts.
It is a real shame that Kier could not come back and finish what he started to ensure the high level of design skill.
Lets just hope this gets addressed in the beta stage.Comment

Yes, I was thinking the same thing -when I looked at the new theme- that you can't please everyone. But in this case, exactly like some customers have pointed out: it looks like something taken out of the '90's / early 00's.

Right. Doesn't look right without avatars.
But unlike others on this thread, I think the design has *some* potential although it does look quite unfinished. I guess the real test is when it goes live here on vbulletin.com. Screen dumps can only go so far.

All of the deemphasis work that Kier did was really appreciated, and I can't imagine a useability issue especially with his forum home layout?
...and just to clarify, I'm not stating any preference in Kier's early working color scheme and such, just the layout of the forumhome bits and the layout of the forumdisplay and postbit.
Since the official screenshots are limited, is Kier's work on the BOTTOM of the forumhome, forumdisplay, and showthread similar to the neater look he was working on or did those get changed to plain versions as well?Last edited by Alien; Sun 18 Oct '09, 8:38am.-Jason / WTF.com
