    Step 7 authentication error

When I first opened the upgrade.php in my browser, it asked for username and password and what I supplied worked, however, at step 7, when it got to second page at URL "upgrade1.php?step=7&startat=1000#end" the script no longer recongnized me as an administrator and I tried logging in a number of times but the login page pops up again. In vB2, my username was in its own special category (not admin - 6) that had all admin powers. I thought that might have been the problem so I went into the database and edited my usergroup to 6 from my custom one. However, that did not solve the problem.

    Please help me troubleshoot this.

    Thank you.

When you say you changed it, I assume you meant after restoring your 2.3.0 backup?

Do you have another admin name that has never been changed from the default admin group that you can test with?

No, I have not yet restored the vB 2 db as I still have hope that it hasn't been 'damaged.' I have just realized that there IS another username that has admin powers that was originally in group 6. I just tried loggin in as that username but nothing happens. It does not accept it.

I would restore the vB2 database and try again from the beginning using the other admin username.

Also, since this is a Beta product, you might want to consider setting up a second copy of your vB2 database to test it on before going live.

same problem here. i really hope there is a way to fix this because i asked the installer to backup the database and i cant find the backup anywhere on the server!
oh yeah and i wasnt an admin eaither i just had admin cp access. that must be the problem i think, even though you edited it in the database..

I'm experiencing the same problem after running the beta upgrade on our development/test forums (going from 2.3.0 to 3.0.0b3). Only one user and it still fails. I think it's a cookie problem since you have to repeat the login screen after each step.

            Step 7) Upgrade Users

Upgrading users, Page 1 of 2
Found 1 users for this batch...

Updating private message totals for user administrator
Inserting user details into usertextfield table

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

            We apologise for any inconvenience.
I did load database_conflicts.php before running the upgrade. It did not report any problem. It's an unmodified test board with one administrator user and one forum with one post.

We need to see the entire error message. Right-click on the error page and go to View/Source. Then copy-n-paste the error message here.

Okay. I can't just start at step 1 again but perhaps you get some useful information from just me manually starting step 7 (I removed the IP, email address and altered the URL at referer and script):

This is definately a bug, luckily i was able to log in as an administrator (i was in a custom usergroup with cp access) and finished the install (and it didnt automaticly go to the step i was up to, i had to type it in the address bar. Now that vb3 is set up, i still cant log in my account at all....
oh yeah i am reffering to the original post when i say this is definately a bug...

                        Call me Crazy. . .

. . .but i solved the Problem for me and it seems to work well here.

I'm the only Admin at my Board and long time ago i added a new usergroup called 'ADMIN'. The system gaves this group the number '17' as 'usergroupid'.

So here comes what i have done.

I used a Programm called 'Textpad' (cause i like to edit Code with it). i opend 'upgrade1.php' from the 'install' folder and changed all points in the code where i find the digit '6' in combine with 'usergroupid' to my number '17'.

Save it, reupload 'upgrade1.php', run upgrade....DONE

All upgradesteps are now done very well on my testboard.
And Board seems to be running normal too.
                        No loginproblems...nothing

Maybe some functions in the board wont work right now, so i have look in all other files for the usergroupdigit as well. But this is a point i had to change in the old board too.

I hope this is a hint for all of you out there !?
