Access Masks Question?

Hi guys,

I have a few moderators now and two super mods, and have setup a staff forum. It is private and non staff cannot see it, although my super mods and me can post in it and see the threads but the mods can only see it and cannot see the threads or post new ones i have set the custom permissions in the forum permissions in the admin cp but they still wont work? why?

could someone show me how to do it?
