Ok, i've researched everything i can find.. i've been fighting with this all day. Im trying to install vb3 gold on my home server: PHP Version 4.1.2 / MySql Version 3.23.47 http://68.101.32.25:5555/~dana/testvb/ (PM for user/pass)
Note the port apache is running on... does that matter?
The problem:
after editing the config.php file (which i did right on the server via Vi) and then browsed to .../~dana/testvb/install/install.php the page comes up blank. a "View source" shows only
What i've tried:
Thoughts? Support folk: If you want to play with it directly, have at it... its a home/test server, i'll hook you up with SSH if you think it will help

Code:
<p></p>
- double checked user/pass info for the db.. its correct and even worked with the exact same settings for a copy of phpBB2 that i have. Even dropped the phpbb database and tried pointing vb3 at that (still pointed there)
- checked all associated files for extra spaces or missing code like ;'s all are perfect.
- all file permissions and ownerships are correct
- tried the upgrade script in hopes maybe it would say "dumbass install it first" which it kinda did, gave me this:
Code:
Invalid SQL: SELECT title, data FROM datastore WHERE title IN ('options', 'cron', 'forumcache', 'usergroupcache', 'stylecache', 'userstats', 'birthdaycache', 'maxloggedin', 'iconcache', 'eventcache', 'mailqueue') mysql error: Table 'phpBB2.datastore' doesn't exist mysql error number: 1146
- restarted mysql/php/apache/server.. no change at all.
- tried installing it from the http root dir instead of my ~dana home directory.
- tried with both a normal mysql user as well as root.. verified in phpMyAdmin that it was setup ok...
- drank lots of beer in hopes it would fix itself
