Reindexing Search fails to go past certain stage

I cleared the index and tried to reindex again but it seems to get stuck on a certain stage without any redirection.
Did not face this problem before even though my vb is hacked.
    Using vb 2.2.9.

What could be the error ?

Your server may be timing out. Start again at thread 6 and see what happens.

      Steve,
I have tried to start from thread 6 , but it carries on to reindex for the next 100 but stops there again.
I have already set this field :
Total number of threads to process: (0 for unlimited)
      to zero.

Then continue the indexing with the last thread that was indexed and repeat until this is done. Your server is timing out and unless you can get your host to fix this, this is the only way to complete the searchindex.

Ok just checked again, it isn't actually going through 100 threads at a go.
It processes a few posts in 6 threads and stops.

ALso, updating the other counters ( like member's posts etc ) face no problems.

Yep, as I said you will need to restart the process at the thread it stopped until you go through all the threads. The server is timing out and unless you can get the host to change some things, this is the only way you will get the indexing done.

Actually Steve, the process ends in a split second, like in 3 seconds after processing the first couple of posts. It just stops there , and in the status bar in IE, reads 'DONE'.

Hence I don't believe it to be a server timing out issue.

Sorry I really don't have any other ideas. This would appear to be a server issue, but I don't know the exact cause of this problem.

It seems to be processing only exactly 61 posts at a time.

There may be a remedy but unfortunately I don't know what it is. Which version of PHP and MySQL are you running? What's a link to your phpinfo.php file?

I also suggest you upgrade to 2.3.4 and remove your hacks. If you still have this problem after that, then you should fill out a support ticket.
