Without wishing to turn this into bashing anyone it brings it all back about how we were treated. CC is hilarious.Comment

And to think he is the one that maintains the UBB.classic source code now...Comment

Thing is he probably would have switched over if it was GPL'ed.
Does bring back some memories.Comment

vb-world.com used a ubb 5 like alot of us did back in that day. ubb 5 stored everything on the server as files, and the whole board was just to slow and to processer intensive.
Infopop said they where bringing out opentopic as a replacment for ubb for large boards, about this time john was developing vB with php and mySQL. He offered it to infopop as a SQL replacment to the ubb but they turned it down. Im not 100% sure what made him go with selling it himself but it was probbly because of the fact infopop wronged alot of its current customers when they said open topic would be a hosted software that we would have to 'pay up' to use.
No one knows why infopop was afriad of SQL for so long, they claimed it would be to hard to support but today you can buy ubb.threads if you want php/SQL. And while they have developed the new version of it they did'nt build it from the ground up as far as I know.
This isent really the place to rant about infopop but you can't talk about early vB without talking about infopop.Comment

Why was infopop worried about SQL back then?
It was true at the time so Infopop made a decision that was right at the time, but, bit them in the end when they lost users to vb.Comment
