    Avatar's not pulling from database

    I recently upgraded to 3.7.1 and now all of the avatars are missing. The avatar storage is set to db, and the system is referring to the avatars there, however they are not showing up.

    This is all happening on a new style I created based on the default style - where I reverted all of the templates. I also tried to create a new template with no parent style, and the problem still persists.

    I'm not getting the "?" avatar appearing either, just user uploaded avatars are all showing as broken links. I reuploaded my own custom avatar and it works, but everyone else just gets a broken link.

      Upgrading does not remove avatars.

      To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

      Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

      [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

      Next, disable all plugins.

      Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

      define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

      Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

        I just went into phpmyadmin and the Avatar table has no rows... does that mean I lost them all? I usually backed up by saving the database in adminCP. Does that backup not save avatars?

          Custom avatars are in the customavatar table. Please follow my instructions.

            Ok I see them all in the customavatar table. As for your instructions, I followed them to the letter and am still having the problem. Both before and after uploading the files again, I see this list come up after running the diagnostic.

              The avatars are pointing to /forums/image.php?u=6&dateline=1113245737
              And do see the dateline # in the customavatars table.

                I do not see how you could have this problem if you followed all of my instructions. Please provide a direct link showing this problem.

                  Here you go:

                  My avatar only works because I reuploaded it.
