    Private Message options

Is there a way to control access to Private Messaging based on post count?

For example, any Registered User with a post count below 16 could not use PMs and Registered users with post counts above 15 could use this feature?

Make it so that your Registered Users usergroup can't use the private message system.
AdminCP > Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Registered Users > Maximum Stored Messages: > set it to zero

    Create another usergroup that can.

Then create a promotion to move people from one group to the next after they've posted 15 posts.

A simple step by step method may be appreciated by many users on how to create a new usergroup with promotions such as the one mentioned by doubleclick...

Well, this must be tricker than it seems.

I created a new usergroup called Credible Users allowing PMs, and set the stored private messages for Registered users to 0.

I then went to promotions, and created a new promotion and here's where things didn't work as I would have expected. Here's the settings that I would have expected to work:

            Usergroup............................. Registered user
Reputation Comparison Type.....Greater or Equal to
            Reputation Level.....................0 (I don't use reputations)
            Days Registered......................7
            Posts...................................25
Promotion Strategy.................Posts and Reputation and Date
            Promotion Type......................Primary Usergroup
            Move User to Usergroup...........Credible members

When I search for users in the Registered Users group, only those who registered this week show up. The Credible User group has everyone else, even those with 0 Posts.

            What am I missing?

Not sure if this is the right approach, but I went into Users > Prune/Move Users and selected the new Credible Members usergroup, and moved everyone with less than 25 posts to Registered members.

That worked, and even pulled my moderators into the Credible member group.

Hope this doesn't screw up the automatic promotions.

Check your Promotion Strategy field. It looks like you might have an OR in there that's only requiring that they meet your 7 day minimum.
