    Installation - Stuck on step 7

    I started a support ticket also. I figured maybe I can get an answer here a little quicker so I can finish with the install.

    my error:
    Step 7) Importing Style Information

    Importing vbulletin-style.xml

    MASTER STYLE
    Please Wait

    support told me to add this to my config.php and make sure xml was installed.

    ini_set('memory_limit', 32 * 1024 * 1024);
    ini_set("max_execution_time", "480");

    I added that to the config.php.

    i contacted my host and xml is installed but vb support says it isnt fully installed. I am missing this option below.

    '--with-xml'

    contacted my host about it and they will not install it because I am on a shared server.

    I also tried to skip step 7 by going maunally to step 8. I get this error below

    Step 8) Importing Admin Help

    Importing vbulletin-adminhelp.xml
    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 342111 bytes) in /home2/www/northeastcustoms/vbulletin/includes/class_core.php on line 363

    Does anyone know a work around this? ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

    As per your support ticket this is an issue with your host. Unless they relent you will likely not be able to install vB on their servers.

      I sent there final response in the support ticket...

      If anyone uses www.hostway.com as a host, you can't install VB unless you buy a dedicated server...

      Now what can I do with this software? Am i allowed to resell it?

        Only active owned licenses are transferable, and cannot be transferred within the first three months of purchase.

            Why don't you just get another host?

              I have been through 20 or so hosts over the years and i wasnt happy with any of them. This host I have had since 1999 and never once had a problem. This is the first time im having an issue. they havent been down once yet or ever ran slow. I eventually moved all my domains and emails to this host. I have been thinking recently of getting a server and doing it all myself and putting it in a data center. im kinda stuck, i dont know what to do...

                  If your host has given you php and access to mysql and are telling you you cannot install your software I'd say thats a pretty big problem.

                    Fairly inexpensive, and they have some nice packages.

                            I complained last night and started the process of moving my host and this was the response from my host.

                            Hello,

                            We have currently downgraded your PHP to version 4.3.2, and are having our tier 2 team look into recompiling php5 with xml support in the same ticket,

                              So they DOWNGRADED to a version you cannot run vBulletin 3.6 on either...

                              I cannot fathom how hard it is to install php5... because I've done it soo many times by hand, rpm, windows installer, etc.
