    UBB v's vBulletin

I have a UBB board and wondered if there is any benefit in switching to vBulletin. It is located at http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/...i/Ultimate.cgi

Or does each have their own strengths/weaknesses?

    Thanks,

    Jon

Only problem with vBulletin is the CPU usage it takes. Other than that, it's fanatasic.

It over powers UBB by far.

    It's faster loading
    Less space
    Less bandwidth
    More features
    Nicer default layout

What more can I say? If you'll notice, all superior forums have gone from UBB to vBulletin. And non plan to switch back.

Never had a problem with the CPU usage under vB 2.0. It is much lower that UBB 6

      Jon:
Better you update your board ASAP because the UBB version that you use has a huge security leak.

This topic has been discussed many times now. You can find the relative threads in this forum if you just look around a bit. They generally have alot of replies so try sorting the threads by replies.

                  I agree w/ fred.

I am a Final Fantasy (a videogame) nut, and there are about 3 2000+ people communities that switched from UBB5x to VB.

                  UBBs sliding downhill...

...and for all you PHP peeps it means

                      ereg_replace("(slid)ing", "\\1", $that_text);

The most noticable sign that vB kicks UBB's ass, is that on these forums topics like these are encouraged, yet on the UBB forums they are all closed.

                        My 2 cents..

The most noticeable sign that UBB is still setting a standard is that EVERY Bulletin Board is still compared to UBB

Every baseketball player is compared to Micheal Jordan. Jordan set a standard, he's not still actively setting it.

Not really, you'll notice the other topics about people ripping off vB, people used to say that they are ripping off UBB...

UBB is still in the highend market, but because UBB went so long without competition, the programmers never added new functions, so now its dying. vB came along and kicked its ass, and now UBB can't recover...

And yes it is kinda funny, you bring this up on UBB's support forums, and the topic will just disappear...
