Microsoft Delivers Windows Vista Beta 2

On Tuesday morning, Microsoft announced the imminent availability of Windows Vista Beta 2, build 5384 of the oft-delayed OS. Beta 2 will go out to beta testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and Technology Adoption Program (TAP) customers sometime this week. Microsoft will make this release available to the public in the coming weeks through a preview program aimed at IT administrators, developers, and technology enthusiasts.

"I believe so much in this product," Microsoft Co-President Jim Allchin said Monday at a reviewer's event in Seattle. Allchin also listed the Vista features he believes will draw the most enthusiasm from users: safety and security, integrated search, advanced mobility, and new Internet and networking capabilities.

But the real reason Vista is such a big deal, Allchin said, is that the OS is the first since Windows 95 that will hit all three of Microsoft's core markets--businesses, consumers, and developers. "Windows Vista has something for every audience," he said. "We improved the system in so many different ways."

Allchin also highlighted that Vista is finally back on track. "We're in the mode now where we're finishing it. We know the path to release. We're familiar with this process. We've done it before."

I'm told that Microsoft will also announce the availability of Windows Server "Longhorn" Beta 2 and Office 2007 Beta 2 Tuesday at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) 2006. The first parts of my Windows Vista Beta 2 and Office 2007 Beta 2 reviews are now available on the SuperSite for Windows.

So what's the latest expected release date for Vista?
I'm looking into buying a Notebook this year, and I'm not sure if I should wait for it to be pre-installed...
    Best Regards

Will it be a bit more stable Joe? I tried a copy of my friends beta, and couldn't get it installed on laptop. Multiple blue screens, and failures of all kinds.

P.S. Got my copy of office2007 this morning

Thankyou for the link Joe. Though I will not be downloading the beta as I play alot of computer games. They will also not be supported by the Vista client.

After it's released in stores, I will buy it them. As everything will be supported by the game.

It supports games, just not as well as it will when it RTM's..

For some reason I suddenly had like 5 users on IM yesterday asking me if I could get a copy of vista 2 because I am staff on this forum.

                          The answer is: no

Bit strange I must say that they think as staff we get things for free or something. lol

When I wasn't getting blue screens, I was getting messages about missing dll files. I tried two methods of installation. First was writing 0s to drive and then booting off the install DVD, and the second was installing XP again and mounting the image and installing of that. Both had the same blue screens during installation.

Of all the components of Vista, i'd have expected the install to be the most stable by now given that it is the actual usage of Vista they want people to find the bugs in
