Summery: Close your forums, backup your files and database, download the latest .zip and update config.php, upload the files and run upgrade.php, open your forums.
Upgrade Instructions:
- Close your 3.0.x forum (can be any 3.0 version)
Admin Control Panel > vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options > Turn Your vBulletin Forum On or Off > Forum Active: Set this to 'No'.
- Make a backup of your current 3.0.x files AND database
- Open your FTP client and login to your web server, find the forum directory and transfer all the files from the web server to a backup directory on your hard drive.
- Admin Control Panel > Import & Maintenance > Database Backup > Check 'Check All [x]' and browse down, click on the [Go] button to download the .sql dump - give it some time to complete.
(Once downloaded, open the .sql dump and make sure the last line reads ## vB dump completed ##, if not, make a dump from shell.)
- Download 3.5.0 from the members' area

- Unpack on your hard drive, modify the new config.php file
Yes, use the new one from 3.5. (You can not use the one from vB 3.0!!)
- Step 1: Rename the includes/config.php.new to includes/config.php
- Step 2: Edit it and set the right values for the variables.
Personally I use UltraEdit to modify any file on my system, you could also use EditPlus or any other notepad replacement file that doesn't muck up the linewraps and adds spaces, etc.

- Upload the files to your web server
Overwriting ALL the files already there (do not skip or resume, really upload!)
Personally I use FlashFXP as it always works for me.

And personally I rather backup the files already there, then delete the old forum files and upload all the new files!
- Run upgrade.php
Point your browser to yourforum.com/dir/install/upgrade.php and follow all the onscreen instructions until you can't get any further and it tells you to remove install.php
- Remove install.php
You can FTP in to your web server, select the file and select delete to do so.
- Done! You can open your forum again
Admin Control Panel > vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options > Turn Your vBulletin Forum On or Off > Forum Active: Set this to 'Yes'.
