vBulletin 3.0.9
vBulletin 3.5 is rapidly approaching the time where it will replace vBulletin 3.0.x as the stable, supported release but until that time we continue to support and fix problems in the 3.0 series.
Version 3.0.9 remedies various problems identified in 3.0.8, in particular a problem with Internet Explorer freezing while posting a message, and an issue relating to the mailqueue failing to send digest email notifications.
A new feature in 3.0.9 is image verification use in the 'contact us' form. This should eliminate the reported problems of spam being sent through it.
Additionally, much has been said about a vulnerability in 3.0.x related to the [img] bbcode tag. While this vulnerability does exist, the ability to exploit it is extremely limited. Nevertheless, it is fixed in 3.0.9. (The attached file overwrites modcp/banning.php and will fix this issue.)
Backing Up Your Forums
Please be sure to check that your backups are complete before continuing with an upgrade. We had reports that PHP was causing time out errors when creating the back up SQL, and this was causing for incomplete or corrupted backups. The safest way to do a backup is to use the mysqldump utility through SSH/Telnet, as it will not suffer from any such problems. Full instructions for backing up your database are available in the vBulletin 3 Manual.
