Email Notifications / Subscriptions

I have found vBulletin subscriptions to be totally confusing.

I offer "email notifications" of posts to my paying guests.

I do not charge anyone to go on and post to, or read any forum.

Somehow, these two situations have become merged on vBulletin.

Are there any threads or informative posts here that can help me sort this out?

There is no option in vB to offer email notifications only to paying members (i.e., by usergroup.)
