problems after server change

i moved servers yesterday (using the transfer an account option in whm)

the forums ran fine till this morning

this morning i first got the "cookies" error, ran a search here and removed white space from one or two files and that seems corrected now

in fact, the forums seem to be running now, but i know they are not, because:

1. admin cannot log in. even after the mycookies and fix_login scripts being run. but i can login with other user ids which i have.
2. there r only 8 users oline now, we always have over 50 at any time.
3. i am getting mail which says people r getting DB errors.
4. this takes the cake - if i clear cookies and visit the forums, the home page comes out mirrored, and buttons are blank.

another thing, normally admins have problem logging into AdminCP, and then they use fix_login.php or something similar

but i just cant login, not even to the forums

and the db error notifications r coming in my mail by the hundreds and thousands

This was a bad transfer. Something in the database got messed up. Do you have a backup of the database?

i dont have a recent backup

and people have been posting since yesterday

cant this db be corrected?

but the old database is still at the old server, and i still have access to that

i doubt if it is just database related

this is what i did:
i renamed the index.php file so no-one wud login, the db error e-mails stopped
i deleted the database through cpanel and created a new one, same name and password
i downloaded the backup from the old server again using wget in ssh (since i dont have shell access to my old server, i just used the url from cpanel)
i unpacked the gz file which i had downloaded, and imported that into the new db with the command given in the manual
the problem still persists
i still cannot login into the ACP, and if i clear cookies, i still see weird stuff

one good thing is that now the board is shut down

btw, i dumped the data from the newly imported database just to check
the file i downloaded from the old server is 63 mb, but if i dump after import, i only get a file of 28mb

In the zip file you download there is a folder called "do_not_upload"

In this folder find the tools.php file. upload this to your admincp

Now in the same zip, find upload/install/vbulletin-langauge.xml

reupload this to the install folder in your forum.

Now go to mysite.com/forum/admincp/tools.php

Click on the link to reimport the master language file.

Delete tools.php

and if i clear cookies, i still get a right aligned forum with half the stuff invisible

i must add here that while i was waiting for someone to respond - i did this

i got my old host to run the recommended sql command for dump
i downloaded that file to new server using ftp in ascii mode
this dump file was only 28 mb, so thank god, that size mismatch riddle is not there
i created a new db and imported the dump

then i did what zachery asked me to

my forums seem to be working now

steve made me forget all hacks and re-upload the original vB files, but they seem to be working

after what i have gone thru, i will not say they r working for sure, but yes, they seem to be working

also, i know this is cruel, but i wish steve (or someone like him, a clone wud be good) was a workaholic insomniac, cos i went thru hell while most of jelsoft was sleeping

i guess that's the "advantage" of being on the opposite side of the globe

i hope he takes this as a compliment
