switching image storage options

I've got a few hundred MB's stored in the database, can someone tell me what the procedure will be for switching: where the options are, how the transfer will happen (if it does happen automatically) and how long it should take.

The option to change where attachments are stored is in your:

Admin CP -> Attachments -> Attachment Storage Type

Select the option to move the attachments to the file system. On the next page you will be able to enter the full server path to the directory in which you want attachments to be stored. The attachments will then be copied to that directory. You will be able to check to see that the transfer was successful before the attachments are wiped from the database.
