When trying to attach image I get error_avatarnotimage

I did a search and got to this thread:

I removed the bit of code like said there, but now I have another problem - the image doesn't show up. It's linked to http://forum.t-cove.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=524 , and that gives me a broken image.
And in case you're wondering, I tried to upload the original functions.php file (mine have a couple of minor changes), but it doesn't help.
And this only started to happen lately, it was all ok in the past.

Upload that as test.php to your vB directory and send me/post the URL. It's possible safe mode/open_basedir/some other annoyance got switched on .

Yup, open_basedir:

open_basedir
/home/sites

If you host can remove it, that'd be great, but if they just put it on, they won't be removing it (security reasons). What I'd suggest is having them make a temp. directory within /home/sites and set upload_tmp_dir to the directory.

Ok, he set upload_tmp_dir to /home/sites/tmp, and now the image is attached (without getting the error). But the image itself does not appear (I'm getting a broken image).

By the way, I set up a demo board on the same server (with the files directly from the original zip file), and the same thing happens.

Do you think he can *temporarily* turn off open_basedir? (ie, turn it off, see if it works, turn it back on)

Unless, of course, he's willing to permanently turn it off

Do non-images work (like a txt or zip)?

In functions.php, acceptupload() function, we don't want to surpress errors anymore, so remove the @ from the following lines (the first isn't with the rest):

      if ($imginfo=@getimagesize($attachment)) {

	  $filesize=@filesize($attachment);
	  $filenum=@fopen($attachment,"rb");
	  $filestuff=@fread($filenum,$filesize);
	  @fclose($filenum);
   	  @unlink($attachment);

Post with an attachment -- what errors are shown?

I'm having this same problem. I tried removing the @ signs from the lines you specified, but just got the "not a valid gif or jpg" error, and not any errors from php as firefly did.

Mine is not on a RAQ server (it's on a Penguin Computing rack-mounted RedHat 7.0 system). It was working at one time, and just seemed to stop. I only installed vB two days ago, and it worked fine to start with, but stopped yesterday.

I also cannot upload from the admin cp. I get a message like:

Warning: Unable to create '../ images/icons/brightblue_black.gif': No such file or directory in /home/newbeetle/public_html/vbulliten/admin/icon.php on line 33

Can anyone help?
