    Extremely Long Thread

Hard to believe, but one thread in my forum just reached 2000 replies today!

Does having extremely long threads lower forum performance? If yes, when is a good time to close a thread and start a new one?

(On my forum, I have a 300 replies cap for Off-topic forum threads and no cap for on topic forum threads)

    Thanks.

There are no performance issues since the posts in a thread are never called up all at once (unless the thread is shorter than the posts per page setting). Some people have threads with 10,000 or more replies.

      10K posts!???? WOW!

Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I should get rid of that 300 posts limit... It's an old tradition from the good 'ol days when we were still using UBB. Sometimes the forum "eats" extremely long threads,
