    vBulletin error

    Hello,

    I also received a series of e-mails with the following content. I'm not quite sure where to begin. The http files and the mysql database are on different servers. The server has been up and running for a good month without any problems until last night. Would anyone be able to decipher the following and explain what may have caused this?

    Database error in vBulletin :

    mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Can't connect to MySQL server on '65.39.254.14' (4)

    Hello,

    And also this one from this morning. Notice that this one has a mySQL error number but the previous ones don't.

    Database error in vBulletin 3.5.4:

    Invalid SQL:

    UPDATE vbulletinsession
    SET lastactivity = 1151589014, location = '/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=25687', inforum = 8, inthread = 25687, incalendar = 0, badlocation = 0
    WHERE sessionhash = '1f42d58ea6e1ed555e07090bb08682c5';

      That error means that either the details in your /includes/config.php file are wrong, or the mysql server is down.

        Hello,

        Thanks for the quick reply. If the server has been running fine for a month, would I be safe to assume that it's the mySQL server that was gone? I found the following thread:

        And a call to the company this morning their first response was they wasn't able to find the server. I tried SSH to the server and it was timed out as well. They restarted it promptly though after I submitted a trouble ticket.

          Yes, if you didn't change anything, then it's safe to say the server is down.

            Hello,

            Okay it appears that the situation is getting more serious but the cause of the error has also changed. I received over 200 of these error messages from vBulletin today via e-mail. And lately whenever the server is not serving pages, Apache is actually up and running when I SSH to check. But when I restart Apache, the server will serve pages again. The e-mails I have been receiving contains the following
            Code:

            mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Too many connections
            /var/www/virtual/canreef.com/webroot/htdocs/vbulletin/includes/class_core.php on line 279

            And we looked at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...265#post310265 but the company wasn't able to find max_allowed_packet and wait_timeout in the my.cnf file. Here's what they replied to me with

            I have checked the site and its working fine now, and I have also check your my.cnf and found that they’re no parameter like:

            max_allowed_packet and
            wait_timeout

            Please check the following contains are there in your my.cnf.

            [mysqld]
            datadir=/var/lib/mysql
            socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
            # Default to using old password format for compatibility with mysql 3.x
            # clients (those using the mysqlclient10 compatibility package).
            old_passwords=1

            [mysql.server]
            user=mysql
            basedir=/var/lib

            [mysqld_safe]
            err-log=/var/log/mysqld.log
            pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid

            Please let us know if you can tune the mysql with the given require parameter.
            So can someone tell me how I can solve this problem? My mySQL server and Apache server are on two different IPs.

              mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Too many connections

              This is a different issue. The server has maxed out the number of MySQL connections it allows (total connections on the server, not just your forums). You can try turning persistent connections off in your config.php:

              $config['MasterServer']['usepconnect'] = 0;

              But if you still have problems after that, all you can do is ask your host to raise the maximum number of connections they allow.

              Here is more info on that error:
