IPB 3.1 to VB 4

I have tried multiple test conversions and always end up with the same results. One of the results is that the quotes from IPB 3.1 now show the bb coding and not any actual quote graphics. Here is an actual edited sample that shows on the forum:
~snip quote content~
Which also shows the other problem. The '.

Here is an actual post after the conversion:

I'm aware of who does and doesn't participate in this forum. And there are times I don't expect many answers. But the times I do, seem to be the times nothing happens.
<<<< ' is the common theme on most posts and in random places. Normal posts and threads as well as quotes. Those symbols and numbers have no rhyme or reason.

Any ideas? I have done everything from making sure hooks and such are disabled on the IPB installation prior to conversion, as well as rebuilding the VB posts. I'm at a loss.

Edit: I'm looking at the IPB phpmyadmin sql stuff and see it scattered all over there too for no particular reason. Odd. O_o. So I'm not sure what exactly is causing this. The quotes might fix themselves if this can get resolved.

Did you run the 'cleaner.php file?

I also migrated from IPB 3.1 to VB 3.8.6 and getting the exact same error for all quotes in the posts. I read cleaner.php documentation but could not understand how to configure it to resolve problem above.

Could any one please take whitetigergrowl's example in the first post and share how exactly I need to configure cleaner for cleaning quotes?

Thanks in advance.

No matter what I do or how I follow the manual it keeps saying (the cleaner) that it's not active. :/

I have edited it like the manual shows and no luck. Tried rebuilding post cache too...no luck there either.

What should I be putting in the cleaner.php file to get this converted properly. I never had this problem on IPB 3 to VB 3 conversions. Only IPB 3 to VB 4.

If this is what I should have, this is not working.

$replacer = array(
"
'" => "'",
);

So I'm gonna guess there is no fix for this?

For the #39 issue is with your php configuration missing iconv. If you recompile php with it, it should address the issue. For the future and if you do another import.

Thank you. I'll see what I can be done. Gotta chat with the webhost first.

This is the webhosts response.

The server si configured with iconv.
Registered Stream Filters zlib.*, convert.iconv.*, string.rot13, string.toupper, string.tolower, string.strip_tags, convert.*, consumed
I retried the conversion only to get the same end result.

I tried re-doing everything and still have the issue.

I'm guessing it may be something in the Impex script. (key word: guessing)

I've done test conversions to the 3.x series with usually no problems. But with VB 4, something changed all that. I'm guessing since the problem didn't exist for me when going to VB 3.x series from IPB 3.x series, that something changed with VB 4. I'll do some more tests and keep ya posted.

When I do a fresh convert to VB 3.8 from IPB 3.1, it does the same thing. :/

Right now there simply is no way for me to do a conversion without it totally messing everything up. Can anyone else duplicate this by converting an IPB 3.1 forum with content to a VB 3.8 or VB 4.

You should speak to AWS. He's converted a few sites from vB3 to IPB 3 now. He seems to be the regular expert at doing it

In the past when I've done test conversions from IPB to VB there were very few problems and this wasn't one of them. However this one just won't go away. The error is basically the html or whatever of the apostrophe. I'm still not sure if it's an impex issue or if there could be something else on the server not working properly. :/

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue and if so, how they were able to fix it. This appears to be the apostrophe coding that IPB is using.
