yes, I did all that and got a new password three times... even the new password refuses to work
so I made a new account with another e-mail address and it logged me out
Really wish I had a clue how to solve this once and for all, this tech support gig sucks.Comment

We was OK until we upgraded to patch 4 now getting quite a few email about logging in.Comment

Did you guys read the announcement about the upgrade. Two main things. First, you MUST RUN THE upgrade script. If you don't, you WILL have problems. Second, you need to disable the board between the time you upload the files and your run the script. If you don't, then any users who register or change their password during that time will NOT BE ABLE to login.
From: Security Fix Releases 3.7.7 and 4.0.2 PL 2
If you are running VB version 4.0.2 and 4.0.2 PL 1, the process is a little different.
1) Download the 4.0.2 PL 2 patch files.
2) Set your site to be offline.
3) Upload the patch files your vbulletin directory.
4) Run the url http://your.site.com/vBdirectory/ins...e_402_salt.php
5) Set your site to be online.
Note: If a user changes their password after the patch is uploaded, but before the upgrade_402_salt.php, then they will be unable to log in. The password will need to be reset after the upgrade_402_salt.php. Setting the site to be offline while the patch is applied will prevent users from changing their passwords during this interval.

I'm having similar issues. Everything was working fine until I installed the PL3/PL4 patches. Now a new user can register, I validate the account, but they cannot log in. Existing users don't seem to have any problems. It's as if the user database is not being updated properly...Comment

To fix this issue you need to run the "salt" upgrade, it has to do with the hasing of your users password and is now apparently changed. You should already have the file uploaded on your server, so the only thing you need to do is this:
1. Turn forums off and do all the usual stuff, like a backup and all that, just in case.
2. Then go to this file /install/upgrade_402_salt.php
3. Type your number.
4. Everything should be fixed now.
Hope that help out anyone that still have this problem!Comment
