[CMS] Wont display a "vbcms article preview image" or thumbnail on front page CMS

I have made an article Vb-4.02 CMS, lots of text, and want to display a thumbnail preview image on the front page of the CMS.

I have uploaded an attachment and set it to display inline, this is the only way it will let me use the paperclip thingie hover the image, (Image Settings Pop-up) is set to the left, and thumbnail. If i click Insert Attachments all that shows in the WYSIWYG editor is
    PHP Code:
    [ATTACH=CONFIG]32[/ATTACH
    .

In the WYSIWYG editor of the article the Attachment image is at the very top and the (Image Settings Pop-up: Clicking on the image in the WYSIWYG will bring up the "Image Settings Menu") is set to the left, and thumbnail. And a
tag is just a few lines down from the top.

    Click save.

    I have moved the tags
down as far as they will go, but it still will not show lots of text, not thumb.

Go to the article on the front page of the CMS, content.php the text shows, but no thymbnail preview. Click to enter the article and the thumbnail is where it should be at the very top left.

I have read and looked through this forum, but can not find how or what to set to get it to work.

Could or would a member please know what is or am i not set to get the preview thumb to show on the CMS front page.

Is this the same issue as here - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...n-cms-homepage ?

If you edit the article in wysiwyg mode, can you hover over the image and see a pencil? If you click on that and set it to thumbnail and save, does it still not show up on the section page (you may have to Clear CMS Cache)?

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

Hello Lynne, thank you for your reply.

No mater what i try either as an attachment or linked image it will not show on the CMS homepage/section page as a thumbnail.

I have many times over the last 3 days of trying to get this to work, cleared CMS Cache. i have 2 pc's with 2 different browsers, FF/IE8, one is logged in as admin, the other as guest.

The only way i can edit the article in wysiwyg mode, and get the (see a pencil, (Image Settings Pop-up: Clicking on the image in the WYSIWYG will bring up the "Image Settings Menu") to set to the left, and thumbnail). Is if i upload the image as an attachment and insert inline. [ ATTACH= CONFIG ]32[ / ATTACH ] Save article. Go the the CMS homepage/section page, and there is no thumbnail image. Go to the article and the thumbnail is showing as it should.

If i put the same attachment as above [ ATTACH= CONFIG ]32[ / ATTACH ] into a table, same place the very start, the first [TD] is the image the second [TD] is the text, and save. Go to the CMS homepage/section page, and there is a gap with nothing but a small space in the first [TD] and then the second [TD] with the text. Go to the article and the thumbnail is showing as it should in the table.

If i use the insert image button, and insert an 90x100px image,
      [ IMG ]http ://www.site.com/images/articles/newyr09.jpg[ /IM G]
i "Can Not" in wysiwyg mode when i click the image and hover over it get the pencil to show.

This has been set from the start.
admincp>settings>options>message posting interface options, enable the standard and WYSIWYG in the full editor.

This has been set from the start.
Attachments are saved to file system

        Another thing i could ad.

Before the upgrade from 3.8.4 to 4.0, i had no attachments uploaded. I did have the attachments set to Attachment Storage Type to be stored in the file system.

Before the upgrade from 3.8.4 to 4.0 in
Admin CP > Attachments > Attachment Manager
It used to show below the words Attachment Manager,
Extension, Maximum Filesize, Max Width, Max Height, Enabled, Thumb, New Window

Now after the upgrade, 3.8.4 to 4.0 now to 4.0.2 the options, Thumb, New Window cannot be found. If i click to edit each Extension, under Content Type the option to check New Window is there but nowhere can an option be found for Display thumbnail for this type.

Before the upgrade i did have the option set to "NO", on "Display thumbnail for this type" and Open this attachment in a new browser window, for all extension's.

Now since the upgrade i can not see the option to set it to yes.

Could this have anything to do with my problem?

I thought i read somewhere that since VB 4.0 the option does not show in the Attachment Manager, the option "Display thumbnail for this type".

Have you looked in the bug tracker because I am pretty sure I have seen other users talk about this issue and they said they put it in there.

Yes i have now looked in the bug tracker/forum/VB CMS Documentation/VB blog, and could not find an answer to this problem.

It would seem this problem goes back to Jan/2010, and am yet to find how to fix it.

Thumbnails also doesn't work if the article is created from scratch. I haven't found a way to properly show thumbnails on CMS.

Is there anyone from vbulletin that can help me with this problem, or let us know that it is reported as a bug. I have found a few bug reports that in a small way discuss this problem that "Article Preview images not showing? 4.0.2 PL1" But could not find a bug report just for this problem.

Could someone tell me how do i report this as a bug?

It would seem this others are having the same trouble.

Article Preview images not showing? 4.0.2 PL1

Thumbnails working on Forums, not in Articles

If you look at my the bottom of my first post, at the view source HTML, you can see the the thumbnail image is showing in the article, but not on the front page of the CMS.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to the problem. And, as you noted, the problem gets brought up in some bug reports but doesn't have it own bug report (so it is kinda getting lost in there). You have a lot of good information in this thread that could help the devs to reproduce this issue (very important!), so I would suggest that you put in a bug report specific to this issue. The bug tracker for 4.0 is here - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?projectid=6

Thank you for your reply Lynne, i understand the VB support team is very busy, and i did not want to start a support ticket with out first trying to find an answer to this problem, first in the forum, and search for an answer in VB cms documentation/bug tracker/VB blog.

Now that you have said it is ok, i will post this in the bug tracker.

Hello Hawkgirl, thank you for your reply. I have opened a thread in the bug tracker, could you post in that thread please how this problem of thumbnails not showing on the front page of the CMS in 4.0.2 is happening on your forum please. I am finding it hard to get a reply from the vbulletin support/dev team in that thread.

Something i did not add above in my first post. After upgrade from 3.8.4, of the CMS 4.0 the first 10 or so posts the come with the new install, the posts made by vBulletin that show the features of the new CMS, "DO" show thumbnails on the front page of the CMS. I did not start to make articles in the CMS until the upgrade to 4.0.2-PL1.

Are there any other member, that are having this problem, of thumbnails not showing on the front page of the CMS in 4.0.2-PL1?
