    [Forum] IPB 3.0.4 >>> VBulletin 4

    Okay, question:

Can I merge an IPB 3.0.4 database into my current 4.0.1 vbulletin software? If so, how do I do it? If not, then whhhhhhhy oh whhhhhhhy vbulletin! lol

    Thanks

Okay I have a question to add to this:

I've been sent the .sql for the database in question; is it possible to do the merger without installing the actual forum software, or do I have to install the forum software first, upload the database and go through all of that?

First convert the IPB 3.0.4 database to 4.0.1 vbulletin database
then add the new vbulton (IPB 3.0.4 previously) with old vbulletin database

How do I convert the IPB database, bearing in mind that its just an .sql file?

You don't need to convert it to vBulletin then merge, you should be able to merge directly to vBulletin 4

at least you could in 3.8 impex, you could be right about impex for 4.0

You want your IPB database to be on vb4 without having IPB anymore? That's what it sounds like, if so these are the steps you need to take:

Remake your IPB DB using the .sql file you have, you may have to do this from command line if the fie is quite big.
              Download and install vb4
Download and setup impex to use your IPB database as source, your vb database as destination
Run the import (be sure to read the docs!)

                Hi thanks for the response!

I've been sent the database in the form of a .sql file - inside, I can see all of the posts, topics, members etc. What you're saying is true - I want to merely import the .sql database into my already established vb4 database, and never want to see the ipb thing again.

How do I remake the IPB database?

You have to create the database on your server and then import the .sql file to it. Then you will create a new database for the vb4 installation. Install vb4, download and install impex and import your old forum from the first database you setup into the new vb4.

I'm onto my host now. They are 'dump'ing my sql file into a new database for me

Ok, now you need to make another new database, link it to your new vbulletin installation and go through the vb install process. Once you have that completed (and you have a running version of vb and your ipb database imported into a db) then download the impex from vbulletin and install it. That process will ask for you to provide your source database information (ipb) and your destination db (vb) and then you can follow the steps to complete the process.

Okay, I can see where this is going, and I like it. But what about my already running VB4 installation - the actual forum I want to merge this new database with? Am I right in thinking that after converting my IPB database into a brand new VB4 installation, I will then merge it with my current VB4 forum (vanity edge)?

Oh ok, if you already have a running vbulletin then you just need to install the impex on it and run it. Please test test test before you do anything to your live db.

                              ^ Okay, ignore that.

I've just imprex'd on my 'test forum' and its removed over 30,000 posts (thank God it was on my test forum HA!). does anybody know why that might've happened?
