Two things to please check before submitting a support ticket regarding XML Sitemaps.
- Google not accepting xml sitemaps that are generated by vBulletin.
- We are currently looking in to this issue as it doesn't seem to occur for every customer. There is a bug 34074 already filed and we are working to resolve this issue. Further support tickets are not necessary. We are aware of the issue and are working on it. As reported by stevectaylor, one possible solution is if you currently have the files in the directory "sitemap", try "map" instead. There's nothing in the google documentation about this being a limitation, thus I don't believe this is the root cause. - XML Sitemap not generating correctly.
Please try the following:
- log in to your admincp
- expand the XML Sitemap section by clicking on the arrow
- Choose "Rebuild Sitemap"
Two likely outcomes
- It works, which is great as you now have a working sitemap.
or
- It doesn't because the path isn't set or isn't writable
First create a directory on your webserver for the xml files to be stored.
One example would be a folder named: sitemap
Then in your admincp -> Settings -> Options -> Choose "XML Sitemap"
and edit settings.
There you will want to put the whole path to your "sitemap" directory
Similar to this: /path/to/directory/sitemap or ./sitemap
