    URL references in VB4 Suite?

    How will the url references look in VB4 with all three components in the Suite (CMS, Forum, Blog)? For example, if I have VB4 installed at the following location:

    What will be the url references if I have the CMS as my VB4 home page and users then click to view either the Forum or Blog? Will it be:

    CMS -> http://www.mydomain.com/forum
    Forum -> http://www.mydomain.com/forum/forum
    Blog -> http://www.mydomain.com/forum/blog

    Or will the urls look different than this? What if I switch the home page default to the Forum or Blog view? What would the references look like then?

    Trying to decide on whether I should purchase, but I would like some clarification on this first as their isn't a demo. Thanks!

    I am interested in the same answer.

    I currently have my forum located at www.example.com but now want the CMS Home Page to be at that URL and the forum to be at www.example.com/forum.

    And dam I wish I had purchased the domain name example.com, I'd be rich

      hmmm...

      maybe you didn't know that these domain names are reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration, if not check section 3 of this document.

        I asked this question last night and wondered if there was any info on this? I want to ensure that if I purchase the suite and install the current version while waiting for the release of VB4...that my structure is going to be setup in such a way as to work with the way the urls will be displayed in VB4.

          No staff can answer this question? Is it really still so early in beta that it can't be answered?? This is a pre-sale question I'm asking. I couldn't find the answer in searching, so I'm hoping it can be answered here. Thanks!

            I'm going to imagine that they have not decided which. SEO is not really a needed feature of the alpha

              It's not in Beta, it's in Alpha.

                  it likely will be like this:

                  CMS Home Page --> http://www.mydomain.com/index.php
                  CMS --> http://www.mydomain.com/forum/cms
                  Forum -> http://www.mydomain.com/forum
                  Blog -> http://www.mydomain.com/forum/blog

                  OR

                  CMS Home Page --> http://www.mydomain.com/index.php
                  CMS --> http://www.mydomain.com/cms
                  Forum -> http://www.mydomain.com/cms/forum
                  Blog -> http://www.mydomain.com/cms/blog

                    Thanks kyrgyz!! I appreciate your post. I'll also work my way through the link that Wayne referenced as well to see what information that provides (I wasn't around months ago to see that post and did not find it through searches...so I appreciate the link).

                      Standard URLs - as exists at present:
                      • showthread.php?t=12345
                      • member.php?u=12345
                      • forumdisplay.php?f=123

                      Basic Friendly URLs:
                      • showthread.php?1234-Thread-Title
                      • member.php?1234-Username
                      • forumdisplay.php?12-Forum-Title

                      Advanced Friendly URLs
                      • showthread.php/1234-Thread-Title
                      • member.php/1234-Username
                      • forumdisplay.php/12-Forum-Title

                      Mod Rewrite Friendly URLs
                      • threads/1234-Thread-Title

                        I read through the entire thread and I didn't see it addressing my specific question. If I installed, today, 3.8.4 into the following directory:

                        After upgrading to VB4 Suite, what would the URLs look like for the main pages of all three suite components (CMS, forum, blog). I'm not worried about how the url will show for displaying forum members or other views, but how each main page will be referenced. Knowing this will help me to determine if I should use the directory name "forum" to install the current 3.8.4 version into or if I should choose something less specific then "forum" in order for it to look right when I upgrade to VB4 Suite. Does that make sense? Because the Suite isn't ready for a least a couple months, but in order to take advantage of the savings I would need to purchase now, I really would like to setup my 3.8.4 structure properly to be ready for when VB4 Suite is released (without having to go through the trouble of installing 3.8.4 now and then having moving things around in a couple months to make it look right with the new Suite). It's a matter of going from a single product to three products and how that will then be displayed to members.

                          CMS: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/content.php

                          Forum: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/forum.php

                          Blogs: http://www.mydomain.com/forum/blog.php

                          That is without any SEO on it. Everything gets installed in the same directory so everything will be a subset of whatever directory you install it to. Using the SEO URL which are very relevant to your original question will allow you to alter how the URLs look to fit your needs.

                              If I order now, I understand that I'll get the forum [3.X] without the suite. Suppose i install the forum on domain.com/forum will i be able to install V.B 4.0 Suite on just domain.com so that I get the URLs as domain.com/content.php and domain.com/blog.php and of course forum remains where it was domain.com/forum. Help Appreciated.
