Users can only give reputation to admin and mods

    Hello there!

Since the upgrade from vB 3.6.10, our users and even we as admins can't give reputation, only to other admin and mods. I've checked every permission and setting but I can't seem to find why is this happenning. Any clue about this?

    Thanks in advance

If you have checked all the permissions, then it has to be from old code or an add-on.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

I tried uploading a new folder with all fresh vB 3.7 files and disabling all the plugins, yet still the add reputation button is not showing, even using the default template.I've disabled it for the time being. Could I please have support look further into this?

What were the results of Suspect Files?

For some reason it recognizes a lot of vB files as 'File not recognized as part of vBulletin', even after uploading a brand new copy of vBulletin on top of the previous files.

Generally you only have to worry about those if they are in the 'includes/xml' directory.

Ok, here's the result. However, those are files from hacks that I disabled to test if they were causing trouble:

As per my instructions to remove you add-ons you also need to remove the files for those add-ons from the 'includes/xml' directory.

Then most likely one of your add-ons changed the database to break this function. This does work with the default vB code.

If you really have removed all your ad-ons, then fill out a support ticket at:

Please include a complete description of the problem and be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP in the 'Sensitive Data' field.

I'm sorry to drag this up after so long, but I had exactly the same problem as Rebirth and all Google searches sent me here. So my cure may help others.

I was using version 3.8.4, when a few weeks ago, I created custom usergroups, which forum members, depending on post count, were moved too.

After this was set up, everyone seemed to lose the ability to rep each other - despite all the settings checking out ok and the rep function being enabled. Only the administrator accounts could send rep.

While this wasn't working, I upgraded vBulletin to 3.8.5, imported the database to another location (using Impex) and checked all the settings again - but nothing had changed.

In the end, I simply created new usergroups, based off the administrator account and moved people there, which seemed to fix it. All I can put it down too is a bug in the vBulletin software.
