It appears that "reply with quote" now just adds the quote to the "quick reply" box. Is there a away to have it open the "advanced" posting page (like it does in 3.) instead?

I'd like to know how this loss of functionality can be corrected in VB4, as well.
Hopefully there's a fix. -

It only works if I click the Reply With Quote button twice, not when I double-click it.
At least that's how it's working from my end.
Edit: But really, having to click twice is no better than having to click the Go Advanced after clicking the Reply With Quote.
It's still two steps and not one like before.Comment

In VB3, when you click on the 'Reply With Quote' you are taken "out of context" from the thread to the text editor where you do have the advanced editing tools to work on your post, though you can see the other posts in the thread which are listed below in reverse chronological order.
In VB4, you can quote and reply within the context of the thread where you can see the posts before the one you're quoting and posts that follow on that page, which makes it easier I suppose to reference comments made by others in the thread if need be.
But, when you do click twice on the 'Reply With Quote' button you do get taken "out of context" like in VB3 when you enter the advanced text editor, and the posts in the thread, like in VB3, are listed below in reverse chronological order with the latest post first, though not all posts are displayed if the thread is a multi-page thread.
What I would like to see is having all the advanced text editor features available when simply clicking on the 'Reply With Quote' button. There must be a reason why it's not.Comment

The most commonly used editor icons are available in the quick reply. What are you missing/need ?Comment

Zachary: More space in the editor, I believe is the major complaint. The advanced editor is larger, allowing you to better see what you are working with.JulieComment

Do you think that might be something the developers can consider adding to quick reply?Comment

For replies that need things like code tags or other extensive formatting, the advanced/full reply window is better.
There is a file - vb/ckeditor.php that you can edit to show those buttons if you really need them - www.vbulletin.org would be the the place to ask about that though. You will probably be looking at adding this somewhere:
Code:$toolbar[] = array('Code', 'Html', 'Php');

On a side note (for vB support folks), why is it called 'Reply With Quote'?
In actuality you are quoting the post and replying to the post.
So on my forum I edited that phrase to read simply 'Quote & Reply' to better convey the action. 'Reply With Quote' can mean that I am replying to the post and I have a quote I would like to insert, so I'm expecting an automatic quote tag to be inside the text editor.👍 1Comment

You re replying, with a quote of that post. I'm not sure how it'd ever be confused.Comment

But like I pointed out (to illustrate how it'd ever be confused) I could be replying with a quote from another poster or another source.
That's why I think renaming it 'Quote & Reply' eliminates the confusion I just illustrated.Comment

Ahh, that's you're assumption. That it's a quote of that particular post.

And how could you be replying with a quote from a different post? If you're going to do that, you surely wouldn't use that button, you'd use the plain "Reply" and manually paste a quote in, or perhaps use "Multi Quote" or something. I'm not really sure what you're driving at there. Reply with Quote make a reply to THAT post, with a quote of THAT post. It's not designed to do anything else and has been the same certainly as far back as vB2. Only difference was that prior to vB4 it was just called "Quote".
It also works much the same on dozens of other forum platforms and is therefore "expected behaviour". Changing it would be silly.MARK.B

Don't be silly. It's just an expansion of VB3's simple 'Quote' button, as you pointed out. And users of VB3 making the transition to VB4 (like I was) will naturally be looking for the 'Quote' button to quote a post and reply to it, and might get initially confused by the 'Reply with Quote' button.
And how could you be replying with a quote from a different post? If you're going to do that, you surely wouldn't use that button, you'd use the plain "Reply" and manually paste a quote in, or perhaps use "Multi Quote" or something.

My point is about the chronological sequence of events. When you click on the button the first thing that happens is that the text editor opens with a quote of the post you wish to reply to. The next step in the sequence of events is that you write your reply. Hence, 'Quote & Reply' makes more sense chronologically.
And if you can't see my point, then forget it. No sense belaboring this.Comment
