Need to be sold on the functional superiority of VB4 over VB3.8.x

Well, was not meant as a bash to vB4, I use it for a large site and it's fine... and I'm glad I upgraded from vB3 to vB4 even looking back now.
That being said, I don't want someone to try and say that *I* told people not to upgrade to vB4 (I never have), so I sourced it...

Native Simlinks and VerticalResponse integration? Lol
The Facebook integration is new to vB4... There really isn't anything major functionality-wise though... So if that's what you are looking for, probably best bet is to wait until vB5.
Even vBSI's staff have given advice to wait until vB5 vs upgrading to vB4 at this point.
Now, whether he withdrew it because he was genuinely incorrect, being new at the job, or whether he withdrew it because he was told to, having revealed something he shouldn't have, only time will tell.MARK.B

He probably just didn't know what he was talking about and vB4 should be upgraded to {shrug}... he's also the one that claimed the alpha team was "highly non responsive and unmotivated". Of course he later retracted it and said it was the "other" alpha/beta team. lolSphinx Search for vBulletin 4: https://marketplace.digitalpoint.com...tin-4.870/item

I didn't read the whole thread, I just remember reading it somewhere... As I said earlier, *I* don't run any vB3 site, and I have no complaints about that.

As far as the whole "should I upgrade to vB4" thing goes, my advice is yes. It's a pretty stable product these days and vB3 looks more old and tired by the day. Sites running stock vB3's are actually becoming off-putting to use.MARK.B

There's been some much needed attention to minor points in 4.1.10 - for instance, the admin CP no longer refers to "Stylevars" and instead mentions "Style variables". After all, if you're new to this game, what the hell is a "stylevar"? Most people associate them with vB4 yet not everyone realises vB3 had stylevars too. vB4 just made them a bit notorious!MARK.B

I found it improved a lot by making the tab that is NOT currently the default, into the default. That seems to confuse people less.MARK.B

Lawrence sort of withdrew that statement. He still found it true, but said major improvements were coming that would make it worth updating to vb4. So lets see if Internet Brands will agree and upgrade their sites.
Indeed, I think Lawrence made a bigger mess of customer relations than we already had, and that's saying something.

vb4 does not look much more modern than vb3. Its not exactly html5, CSS3 and jquery.
How much time did you put into modifying your site its style and behavior? You have added some nice improvements, by borrowing elements from XenForo and IPB.I buy 420 forums

I find vb4 looking pretty outdated and tired. Unless you do some serious work on the style. Which brings you to the stylevar system issues.

The other aspect of "modern" styles is all the popover and sliding nonsense, which I generally despise.MARK.B
