We have been having an issue where random users get locked out of the forum at random intervals. This will happen to generic members or to admin accounts. When they go to log in, they receive the message that they have attempted to log in too many times and they are locked out. This issue will always resolve itself for anyone it is happening to if they wait for about a day to log in. No changes I have made in the forum's configuration seem to have a positive or negative affect on this. I'm really stuck with this and honestly considering moving to a different forum solution if I can't figure it out. But that is a huge hassle and I believe that if I had some assistance from someone who knows more about vBulletin than I do, we might be able to solve it. |

If you look at your online.php list of users, is everyone showing up with different IPs or all the same IPs?

There is a possibility they might be the same. I say that because when I click the IP button on any post, it shows the same IP address no matter which user's post I click. Coincidentally, I am currently not able to check online.php because the "Who's Online" option is disabled and the admin is locked out right now. It's just a coincidental recurrence of the described issue, I believe. I was logged in with the admin account this morning. Hopefully I will be able to get back in tomorrow morning to enable "Who's Online" and check the IP's.
Thanks for your help so far! I'll post again when I can get logged in.Comment

I was able to log in this morning and turn on the Who's Online feature. online.php shows that all of the IP addresses are the same. The IP address is owned by our ISP. So I can definitely see what might be happening with logins. Question is: What do I do now? IP address tracking isn't critical to us. I just need to get it so people aren't locked out. Thanks for your help!Comment

It looks like this is exactly what I'm experiencing. We have relatively low traffic on our forums and we moved to a different host a while ago. It must have taken this long for the problem to become apparent.

Yep. Have you talked to your host about getting this resolved?

Good luck with it. Try making your IP one that doesn't change all the time. Check your browser's options menu for this along with your network settings. Then check who's ip's you have banned in user banning settings in your admincp options menu.Aussiefootyforums

The issue was that our server was behind a load balancing device that made the PHP variable $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] resolve to the load balancer's IP address. I'd like to have the environment changed so that I don't need to edit vBulletin code (makes updates even more of a hassle than they already are). If the environment can't be changed, you have to tell vBulletin to use something other than REMOTE_ADDR to get the users' IP addresses. Here are some solutions I found:
If you happen to be working with Rackspace and using their cloud server service, this is some useful info as well:
Thanks again for your help Lynne. You got me on track to solving this problem and I appreciate it.Comment

by Dale D-FLAs I was viewing some of my members profiles this morning I noticed that it appears that everyone of them have the same IP Address which is mine. Why would that be?
