Check the site error_logs (if you don't know where they are, ask your host). Most likely the actual error will be in there.

DID you recently upgrade your CGI ? From My host
"http://www.adploits.com/2011/06/13/vbulletin-php-fastcgi-large-attachment-upload-500-server-error-fix/
that's the fix
but I don't want to make that fix because I think FastCGI just messed up during the install
because on srv1, we have FastCGI operating the exact same way and I didn't have to make any werird fixes
and I can upload files that are 150mb without problems I think i'm going to reinstall fastCGI & php
maybe that'll fix it
it's not a problem with VB because that script that I created
is completely separate from VB and when I changed the server to go from FastCGI back to 'CGI'
- I ran the script and uploaded a 3MB file easilyBut I don't want to have to use CGI since FastCGI is much faster and handles traffic easier so the install is going through now it takes about 10-15 minutes
and you might have some problems viewing your site during the reinstall
- there that didn't fix it -- but I threw in the lines it needed I think it's a bug in the FastCGI code they released so I think they'll get to fixing it on their next releasebut now anyone can upload files upto 15mb.

Your welcome Good luck then, I am really glad I know my host and he took the time to find it and fix it for me, I had error on all attachments over 123k or so, and it started happening kinda randomly.
ETA I notice yours is a 408 were mine is a 500 so hopfully this can point you in the right direction .

prior to the above quote this was the conversation
- a CGI server will handle your request
- aka: loading the right file
- and initiating PHP, etc
- now, I enabled FastCGI on srv2 about 3 months ago
- so I don't know why this issue is just happening now
- but FastCGI
- is a newer CGI server
- where using the old "CGI system"
- it was 1 process handling all of the traffic
- in FastCGI it's 10-20 processes that are constantly running
- to make sure that when someone connects, they're not held up by someone else
I had it previously and could not use flash for quite a while and I thought it was VB so I waited for a corrected release.

error_logs are server logs - you don't need to set anything up in vbulletin to get them.

That's why I said if you don't know where they are then you should ask your host.

No need to post the whole thing. Find where they are. Then go try to do an attachment and get the error. Then look in the logs at that specific time for your IP and see what error showed up. Then post that error.
