VPS for medium sized forum

We're on a shared Hostgator plan and not that happy.
So we are going to move.

We are thinking either Hostgator VPS level 4 (Virtuozzo based) http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/

http://photonvps.com/xen.html WARP 3

I'm leaning towards the XEN based VPS.

We have about 1,500 active remembers (post at least monthly),
Threads 54,262, Posts 537,810, Members 14,395


Current usage (due to being a photographic forum)
- 85,000 inodes (but this is without thumbnails – ~125,000 in total)
- ~200 GB/month bandwith (and growing)
- 20GB storage inc MySQL (2 production databases, 1 test/scratch database)


Peak monthly use in the last 6 months:
55,370 visitors 135,097 visits 4,273,154 pages 17,203,877 hits 164.88 GB (+FTP backup, Email etc)


Software:
- vBulletin 4.1.3 Forum, Photopost Gallery, vBA CMPS, VaultWiki, and our Photo competition system.
- Linux Centos 5.5 + cPanel
- Apache 2.2.19
- PHP 5.2.17 (can run PHP 5.3.x)
- MySQL 5.1.52 (can run 5.5.x)

Ideas, suggestions, comments gratefully accepted & welcome.

I have been with PhotonVPS a while back and I was very happy with their service. The reason I moved was because I went for a Dedicated later.

The warp3 plan looks nice, however I have no idea of how the prices are for VPS's any more, however give it a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=103 or post your needs there, many companies and users can help you .

if the original 2 choices are only options i'd choose photonvps WARP 3 as you can still add whm/cpanel + litespeed license and still come out cheaper and with litespeed replacing apache = much better performance with more memory to boot

Thanks, I got a Pm suggesting PhotonVPS may not be up to scratch since they changed owners 12 or so months ago.

No idea about ownership just going by what's listed on their web site in comparison to each other. If you just want to save time and headaches, go with web host i use and recommend Wiredtree http://vbtechsupport.com/wiredtree_webhosting/

If you want top notch VPS providers i would suggest the following:

- Knownhost (personally use them and have no probs, love their custom upgrades)
- Wiredtree (many good things about them, recently had some network outages but been solid usually)
- ServInt (many vb users recommended me this when i was looking for a VPS)
- FutureHosting (Great host specially if you looking for a server in UK)

I'm guessing you need a managed server, if you looking for unmanaged ones then you may try

- Linode
- 6sync

Those two are the only ones i know of with good reps.

Another alternative is www.urljet.com - They offer Litespeed on all packages as opposed to Apache, plus you can have CDN added if required. I have a VPS with them and never have issues at all. With 3 forums running including vBulletin it handles pretty well especially with the free CDN as well. Dedicated vBulletin support is also a plus.

Does anyone have any UK hosting recommendations for VBulletin? I've already emailed futurehosting but others would be good.

URLJet is good option for any kind of VB hosting, but they are a lot more expensive than the rest. From the options recommended above, I will support Hostgator and ServInt. Liquidweb is also a good option.
