[Forum] Search Error: connection to 127.0.0.1:3313 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)

When I do searches either in the forums or blogs, etc., I'm getting the following error message:

    connection to 127.0.0.1:3313 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)

Is this a vBulletin error message or something related to our mysql server which is different than the server hosting vBulletin & httpd?

I'm running vb 4.1.4 to which I just upgraded today but the problem was occurring before the upgrade.

FYI, I'm also running Sphinx for the search database.

Any ideas where is the problem?

    Thanks. -- Rik

It sounds like your connection to sphinx failed, for some reason. FYI Sphinx search is not a supported feature.

Your host might be blocking that particular port.

        Zachery:

You are right. I reverted to the native vbulletin search engine and the problem is gone.

        Thanks. -- Rik

You probably just don't have searchd running. Also, 3313 isn't a normal Sphinx port 3312 was the default port for very old versions of Sphinx).

Thanks all for the help. I'm re-indexing to try the native vb search (only 900,000 posts) again. I'll see how that works and if its really too slow, I'll give Sphinx another shot later.

I see an implementation for Spinx 1.11 over at vbulletin.org and it might be worth giving that a try since whatever I was using is outdated.l

            Thanks again. -- Rik
