[Forum] Effective use of Google Adsense: 2 Methods and Usergroup Conditionals

Hello,

I'm thinking about using Google Adsense on my vB4 site and after doing a bit of further reading have a couple of queries that I hope people could help with?

1) Two ways of implementing Google Adsense in VB4

a) Through the vB4 automatic method (with vB link/registration).
b) Using normal ad slots and putting in your own Google Adsense code.

I can see advantages to both methods and I'm interested to try a) (vB's automatic system) - but there isn't a usergroup selection policy for method a). Does anyone know what vB conditional statements I would need to use (and also where they would go) so that such adverts would not be shown to certain usergroups?

2) Location of Adverts

I've also read that having too many Adsense blocks on a page is likely detrimental and so wondered where people found the most effective placement of Adsense blocks?

For 1, when the ads are inserted they're inserted into the relevant Ad Templates exactly the same as when you add them manually via the Ad Manager. You can simply edit the templates for option 1.

For 2, does the list of options not give you sufficient control?

Could you tell me where the relevant Ad Templates are in vB4 (so I could add the conditional code around them)?

For 1b) Not quite! I'm actually considering placing an ad. directly after the (current) last post in a thread/topic. I use the Global Footer for something else!

AdminCP > Styles & Templates > Style Manager > [Edit Templates] > Ad Location Templates

Just add the code to the same group of templates with the conditional you need to suit your needs

Out of interest could you tell me which specific templates deal with option 1a) - The vB auto Adsense placements? (I can't see any labelled as "Adsense")

There's no 'adsense' templates per se, the code is added to the standard templates:

ad_showthread_firstpost_sig
ad_footer_start

From what I've seen regarding Part 2, having adverts "Below the fold" doesn't work anywhere near as well as near the top of the page.
