[Forum] Unable to upload image in v4.1.1

I'm on a hosting service and did the steps mentioned in the following thread:

I've set the permission of my tmp folder in my hosting root to both "0777" and "1777".

i keep getting the "Unable to upload image" message.

You have to have root access to do that. Do you?

If so, this is still a server issue. Enable phpinfo in the Admin CP, then provide the URL to your forums. This may help us troubleshoot this problem.

Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Public phpinfo() Display Enabled

Do you have root access to this server? There has been no change the the upload_tmp_dir setting.

You have open_basedir restrictions on your server. To get uploads to work you need to create a 'tmp' subdirectory under your main hosting directory and chmod it to 777. Then in the Admin CP set "Upload In Safe Mode?" to 'Yes' and point the "Safe Mode Temp Directory" to that directory. If you placed the tmp directory in the right place, the path to the Safe Mode Temp Directory will be:

        /home/predfish/tmp

Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Safe Mode Temporary Directory

Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Safe Mode Upload Enabled -> Yes

Also the php.ini setting for 'upload_tmp_dir' is empty. You (as root) or your host will need to edit php.ini and set 'upload_tmp_dir' to point to the full path to a directory on the server that is chmod'd to 1777. You will also need to restart Apache after making this change.

i do not have root access to the server as it is on a shared hosting service.

seems like i have to get the hosting company to create the folder with the permission in their server.

          thanks.

steps taken by the hosting company:
            1. set 'upload_tmp_dir' to '/tmp'
            2. create tmp folder in root
            3. chmod 1777 for tmp
            4. restart apache

did i give them the wrong instructions?

the error is not resolved after those are done.

Actually no. You have '/tmp'. Please read post #4 again.

                    since my upload_tmp_dir is "/tmp" shouldn't it be "/tmp"?

anyway, I've changed it to /home/predfish/tmp but still doesn't work.

It should be /home/predfish/tmp as I already posted.

If it's not working then either you did not create and chmod that directory correctly, or your host have not created and chmod'd the /tmp directory correctly.
