Doesn't stand for anything. However if you cannot except that as an answer you can think of it as:

John Percival started http://www.vb-world.com (now http://www.vbforums.com) as a forum running Infopop's UBB software. John then rewrote this software in php (as he called it "a major hack"). John made many many revisions to his php version of UBB, and when Infopop did not follow through when he made some sort of offer to them with it, he went ahead and started vBulletin, selling it himself. My guess is the "vb" has something to do with the fact that VBForums was essentially the first vBulletin board.
I am sure this isn't 100% correct, but it is how I gather based on memory and early threads in the feedback section at VBF (vbforums). If anyone else has a better knowledge, I would be interested.
