User registration - Unique Question option?

Is it possible to add a Unique Question for user registration. I currently use phpbb and have added a mod. that uses a unique question. I have found that it cut down spam to almost zero over the past year.

I think that if I cannot add such a mod to vbulletin, I would not want to switch. Otherwise I am seriously thinking about doing so.

Vbulletin does not need this mod. Vbulletin captcha is not broken and no bot can break it.

I'd add an 'yet' to that rather bold statement.

Phpbb used captcha as well and bots broke them eventually. It's only a matter of time before they break the vbulletin ones as well.

So I guess there is no way to add a unique question then...correct?

There's always a way, it's called mods, found at vbulletin.org, the official mod-site.
Note that modded installations don't get the same level of official support here.

What you're asking for is an easily installed mod, available at vBulletin.org

I believe you're wrong. I'm pretty sure I've had bots bypass it.

If you have evidence of this then please provide it. We have not seen any evidence that bots can bypass vB image verification with the recommended settings.

                    Hi Steve,

we have the same problem with spambots, we find an advert in the posting from the spam bot. Looks like that this is the program used for the bot http://fp.icontool.com .

Hope that helps to fight against the spambot problem.

That tool cannot break the image captcha in vBulletin 3.6.X with the recommended settings of using truetype, random fonts, random slant and random colors. It can break image captcha in 3.0.X and 3.5.X. You can even go further and replace the fonts provided by vBulletin with your own custom fonts out of the thousands available on the Internet for free or fee. You can also replace the default backgrounds with your own custom images.

The post (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showp...00&postcount=6) above, links to other suggestions and how to add a required question without using a mod.

hm then there is an other way the spambot use to register. when we notice the registration of the first couple of bots, we change the image verification from gd to gd with truetype with all options enabled.

i put a security question into the registration, that should help.

Probably not a spam bot or one that uses human intervention that gets around image captcha.

Cyrus, could you post a link to your board? This way someone could check to make sure you are truely using GD Truetype as well as other settings are enabled.
