      These Russians are driving me nuts.

      They all seem to register with a .ru email or now I'm seeing this cashette.com email address.

      I have moderation turned on but as somebody above mentioned it let's them win as I'm doing something I don't want to do. I just moderate the new registrants and then delete them immediately. *sigh*

          The Russkies will have in their user preferences their time zone as GMT -12.

          After banning all mail.ru email registrations on my site, they've gotten clever and one of them registered and posted the spam to the site within a poem, by putting the links to the site being spammed as one of the lines of the poem. They may get so clever in the future as to even put their links the same color as the page background, along with the poetry and they will fool most people that way.

              In the "banned email address" I have put this:

              @cashette.com @gawab.com .ru

              Is this going to get the job done banning any cashette.com, gawab.com or an email address ending in "ru"?

              If not, where am I messing up?

              The Russians are driving me nuts!

              Thanks.

                  Yes, it will. Remember to ban @*.ru, too. The * is a wild card and will basically block all Russian domains.

                    You should not use wildcards. '.ru' will disallow all mail addresses ending with .ru to be registered. Banned email addresses are seperated by a space.

                    If you turn on Agressive Email Banning then it will also disallow if a string is matched anywhere in the mail address.

                      Thanks Marco - I had put the @ in front of the .ru - thanks for pointing this out.

                        how ironic - most of those bots that register with @*.ru emails are actually americans

                              also doesn't take much to hop on a US based proxy server. Highly doubt they would be dumb enough to use their own IP.

                                I have email confirmation activated for new registrations and while this doesn't prevent the registrations, it has prevented any posting since you have to click the link in the email to activate the account.

                                I'm getting 2, maybe 3 of these registrations per day and I just delete them as I see them.
