    My vBulletin Issue List

I have been asked to stop bumping other people's posts and to make my own thread. My thinking was that the same issue should be in the same thread for others to find. Pardon my fumbling. I've been trying to be patient and figure out all my issues on my own and I have solved a lot of them, but here are some that remain. The good news is that my list of solved issues (not here) is about equal to the unsolved, so I am making progress.

Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

    1. Does not stay logged in, even if box is ticked. (it did for about 2 days, then stopped working again!)

    2. Unread posts link (that works). My own posts show up as unread. The search results include unread items. This is REALLY a crimp in my work flow not having a link to click to read all my unread posts. I can use "today's posts" link for similar results, but either link does not give me unread, especially if older than 24 hours.)
    (I'm using this link I found in the forum: http://www.domain.com/forum/search?searchJSON={%22unread_only%22:1,%22view%22:%22topic%22,%22exclude_type%22:[%22vBForum_PrivateMessage%22]}

    3. Private threads do not show with private notification to guests (not logged in). In other words, in vB4, those without permissions could still see the forum area, but not the threads. There was a choice to have it say "private" or the number of posts, but not let them see the threads. I have classes in my forum and I would like unlogged/guests to see that all the class threads are there, but not see what is in them until they have permissions to do so.

    4. Only admin can see "comment" link on posts. I've tried several settings. Apparently, there have been reports that occasionally someone will see it in just one thread, but not others.

    5. Email with error regarding subscriptions. See this thread here on vBulletin.com

    6. There's a notification for a new profile message, but it does not have a link. I cannot see these messages on my own profile.

    7. Post icons work in admin and in compose/edit box, but do not show in forum. (See this thread.)

    11. Trouble uploading avatar (file size exceeds the limit) - (may be fixed, waiting on forum user to confirm)

    12. Avatar images on posts do not always stay larger. (discussed this here)

    13. User Rank and Promotions Not Working (work in progress)

    14. I would like option for shorter url's. I link forum threads to html pages for class lessons. If I change the name of a forum area (channel), the url will change and I will have to update all those pages.. It seems the old url's on my html pages still work (just the thread number in the url).

    15. CALENDAR? Is there no calendar? It's been in every version of VB I've owned!

      Hello

      Short and sweet answers....

      1. This is a known issue on some setups. Make sure users are ticking "Remember" though.
      2. Unread posts is broken, as of 5.1.2 Today's Posts works correctly.
      3. Make sure "Can view topic content" is set to no, but the usergroup can view the actual forum.
      4. This is now a usergroups setting I believe, make sure it is enabled.
      5. Probably needs a support ticket.
      6. I believe that's a known issue.
      7. Probably needs a support ticket.
      12. Need to make the file edit I posted in that thread, no other fix at this time.
      13. Known issue, needs manualy updating at this time.
      14. You can use yourdomain.com/node/nodeid as a shorter link. Eg www.vbulletin.com/forum/node/4092838 will take you to this thread.
      15. There is no calendar in vBulletin 5 at this time, sorry.

Update. Been chatting Zachery Woods on a support ticket since July 18 and still not one issue has been resolved (except #14 as your answer for that does work for me.)

I'm just learning how to be a patient person. That's all that's happening.

Point 12 - Has that file edit been made? I have that working on numerous sites.
I don't want to step onto anything Zachery's doing, but if you want me to make the edit, I'm happy to do so, just send in a new ticket for my attention.

Here is the latest compiled information from working with Zachery:

            ***
Here is an compiled update of the issues below.
            Please review 2B, 4, 5, and 16.

            *******

            1. Does not stay logged in, even if box is ticked.
PROGRESS REPORT: missing a value in your core config file related to cookies; Stays logged in about 70% of the time.

            2. Unread posts link (that works)
PROGRESS REPORT: There is a new posts link, which is a link of all topics that have been updated since the last time you visited, and a Today's Posts which is the last 24 hours. There is not currently a link to show you all posts that have yet to be read by you.

2B. My own posts show up as unread. Grrr. Unread includes read posts.
            PROGRESS REPORT: None.

            3. Private (class) threads do not show with private notification to guests (not logged in).
            PROGRESS REPORT: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-13369
Voted on the matching issue: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-2124

            4. Only admin can see to "comment" under post.
PROGRESS REPORT: Made all usergroup accounts "Can Comment" to yes. Global option set to "yes" here: Message Posting and Editing Options/Topic Comment Posting/Enable this option to allow user post comments besides replies on topics. STILL NOT WORKING.

            5. Email with error regarding subscriptions.
PROGRESS REPORT: Support Zachery indicates it is a VB4 file. When I installed vB5, there were no vB4 files on the server. The only files added back in after the install were specific image files (ranks/smilies/ etc). Wayne in forum indicates "To resolve the error, need to know which of the two numbers is "duplicate". You would need to find the max value in the database." but I do not know how to do that.

            6. There's an notification for a profile visitor message, but it does not have a link. I cannot see messages on my own profile.
            PROGRESS REPORT: Bug/voted: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-7433

            7. Post icons work in admin and in compose/edit box, but do not show in forum.
            PROGRESS REPORT: Bug/voted: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-9871
Support Zachery commented out their display in the templates, so the broken pictures don't show at the very least.

            12. Avatar images on posts do not always stay larger.
            PROGRESS REPORT: Bug/voted: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-12186

            13. User Rank and Promotions Not Working/After post moderated approved, user count does change.
            Bug/voted:
An issue with ranks was fixed recently, it will be available in 5.1.3 http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-10044

            14. Shorter URL's
            PROGRESS REPORT: Fixed: use www.sitename.com/forum/node/####

            15. No calendar
PROGRESS REPORT: There is no calendar in 5 at this time. Installed birthday module.

            16. On user profile, the image dot for online/not online is always green.
            PROGRESS REPORT: Just submitted.

Regarding this help you posted, I did not make the edits because I assumed that every time I upgraded the forum, I would have to re-edit the .php file again when it was overwritten. Right now, it seems as if updates are coming quickly. If I find some time, I may try to do your suggestion as I believe I have skills enough to try it.

That's fine, but that *is* the fix.....there won't be any other fix unless and until that file edit is deployed to the product. Sometimes file edits are the only way.

I'm putting this here in case it helps others:

regarding #4 above. I figured it out on my own! Another problem/complaint arose whereby someone could create a new topic in one forum area/channel and not another. Since the usergroup settings would not split privileges such as that, I began looking at the Channel Management/Channel Permissions. I spied a "can comment" in those permissions! It baffles me why someone would want to allow commenting in some channels and not others, or create topics in some and not others, but those and many other options are there that were not before. Personally, I would only need them in the usergroup settings and not the channel permissions settings as to have to set them in both places is time consuming and pesky.

Now that they can comment, I am finding myself wanting to "like" the comments. Is there a way to like comments just so they know I've read it when it doesn't really need a reply?
