    vBulletin Free Software?

Hi, I am looking for a good Free Software (i.e. Open Source) bulletin board system. I am willing to pay for it and/or for the support/packaging. Is vBulletin Free Software?

Are you implying open source = free or open source = where you can view the programming code?

          vBulletin is NOT OPEN SOURCE.

It can be referred to as Visual Source in that you can see the source code but it is in no way to be considered Open Source.

              Another way to describe it:
vBulletin is licensed software which you have to pay for.
However, as a customer, you can view and modify the code according to your needs.
However (2nd), you are not allowed to redistribute the software/code (modified or unmodified) in any way.

phpBB might always be an alternative, but vBulletin has more features atm and you get guaranteed free support as a customer.
The question is something like why using Windows instead of Linux which is for free. You have the choice and need to see what software matches your needs best.

With the exception that vB is much more stable than any Windows system I´ve seen!

I don't consider windows stable... But if you replaced that "Windows" word with "Unix based", I'd be very assured about the stableness of vB
                      Best Regards,
