    user tables

    ?
i am about to build a web site that will restrict most of the features (but not all) to members. to become a member they will need to register their profile with vbulletin.

    in other words:
    - anyone can read the board
    - only registered members can post
    - only registered members can view certain pages (outside the board)

i will need to read cookies that vbulltin writes
i will need to write cookies that vbulletin uses
i will need to read info from the user tables

i would love to NOT have to change all my code every time vbulletin comes out with a new version of their board.

how well documented if your code? i.e. will my dumb ass be able to figure out where everything is?
how responsive is tech support? will they even support mods like this?
any examples of similar setups out there?

    thank you much!!!

p.s. i am currently using ubb, but was considering switching over to you guys for quite some time!!

p.p.s. you're not going out of business any time soon, are you?
    me?

There are extensive hacks doing what you want over at vBulletin.org. We personally don't support mods here but they do there. There are quite a few sites that have talked about doing this but I don't know of many who have since we don't keep track of those who edit their code.

You might look at www.phpportals.com as it is a pretty extensive mod to vBulletin and shows you what could be done.
