    vB version 3

I already have a license to vB, but I didn't know where else this question would fit...

Are there any tentative release timeframes on vBulletin version 3, and is there anywhere I could find a list of possible features that would be found in the new version?

    Thanks.

One dev said that June was a likely release date, but since not even a beta is available to licensed users, nobody really knows.

Here's a question: seeing as vB2 is so good I can't think of any features at all which would make an upgrade worthwhile. Just what is vB3 going to offer users which will compel them to upgrade?

Look at my avatar. That's the answer to your question.

vB3 is supposedly a near rewrite of vBulletin 2 and there are tons of back-end improvements, but us poor already-licensed-users don't have access to a beta yet.

          You need a better imagination.

A couple of the features already announced in various locations:

            - Revamped and more powerful template system. You will have to see it to believe it.
            - Recurring and multiple day events on the calendar.
            - Threaded view (choosable by user).
            - Better Permissions system.
            Translations provided by Google.

Not to forget, the admin panel, let alone its style, would be enough to make us fall off our chairs less we're tied down when we first see it.

                vB 3 & mySQL 4

Wonder if vB 3 will work with the upcoming mySQL 4 ...?

(or, maybe mySQL 4 will be backwards compatible with the feature-set of mySQL 3.23 so this is a moot point)

SQL is SQL, I don't think MySQL4 would lose any functionality...

My hosting provider currently refuses to upgrade to PHP 4.1.2 .. and hangs to 4.0.3pl4 .. will vB3 run on that 'lame' version?

vBulletin needs PHP4.0.4 or higher to run.

Once MySQL4 is out of alpha and beta we will make a determination as to whether it works correctly with vBulletin and let you know. Chances are it will, since as Darkshines said, they aren't going to drop functionality. However for the time being we cannot support running vB on MySQL4. We also cannot support running it or an alpha or beta version of PHP.

D'OH! I've got PHP 4.0.1pl2 on my host, is that close enough?

It won't be with vB3. Right now vB will run on 3.0.9+ but vB3 will require 4.0.4 or higher.

Such a simple statement and one that you would consider to be true. However the SQL standard is followed about as rigorously as the HTML standard is followed by Browser manufacturers.
