Pre-Sales Questions
Hello,
I am looking at vBulletin (most likely v5 unless my server will only support v4) and have some questions.
First, I'm confused on the system requirements. On some parts of the website, it lists PHP 5.4 or later & MySQL 5.5 or later as requirements for v5, elsewhere I saw PHP 5.6.0 or greater and MySQL 5.1.5 or greater and in the online manual it lists PHP 5.6.0 thru 7.1 and MySQL 5.5.0 or greater. I'm unsure which to go by. I would imagine the manual would be the most accurate.
Next, can vBulletin be used on a subdomain instead of the main domain? For example, if my domain name is domain.dom, can vBulletin be installed on forums.domain.dom so I can have domain.dom for a different website?
Can the entire forum be only viewed by approved, registered members? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but just want to make sure.
Can custom fields be added to user profiles and can those custom fields be displayed on the users' posts under their names? For example, to the left where it has "New Member" under my user ID, could I have something display like "Gold Member" or "Silver Member" or whatever levels/descriptions I wanted to use?
Can I, as an admin (and not regular users), use custom PHP scripts on certain areas of the site? For example, let's say I wanted to create a database of types of shoes. Could I do that as a separate database and have a page/post/something with PHP code I write in order for users to lookup items in that database? Or are such capabilities already available within vB?
