Purchase New License for Existing Forum

I am running a website currently that uses vBulletin 4.2, but the webmaster of this site is looking to give me ownership of their website. Am I able to purchase my own license of vBulletin 5, and use it to upgrade this existing forum?

Everything else is already in my name as far as the domain, web server, etc. This license is the last thing that I'd like to transfer over, and I'd like to just go ahead and buy my own version of vB 5 instead of continuing with vB4 anyway.

Yes, you can do this. You'll just need to associate the site's URL with the license you buy.
Then whenever you upgrade, use your license's software download and your site will run completely off of your license.
