    Migrate from Phpbb to VB

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to VB and currently run a Phpbb forum but looking to switch host and also forum software. Is it possible to migrate my Phpbb forum including posts to the new VB forum on a new host? If so is it easy and also are their companies offering to do this for a fee?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes there companies that do this for a fee, we do not endorse anyone specifically. One site I know of is http://gconverters.com/ but there are others.

We do not have a guaranteed means to convert from phpBB to vBulletin but if you want to try our old Impex software which is now an open source project you can check it out here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...ad#post4045829

Hi, I have experience migrating phpbb to vB. What version of phpbb you're migrating from and what version of vB you're migrating to?

Hi Glenn, my phpbb was version 3.1 and I have purchased a VB 5 connect license and as I understand I would need to migrate to 4 and then upgrade to 5?

To be honest I have just registered a new domain and host to have the new forum on and they said they would do it but after 24 hours nothing has been done(

You're right. You have to migrate to vB4 first then upgrade to vB5. Who's your host?

Hi Glenn, I'm hosting with Abelohost.

They finally have the old phpbb forum online but the posts don't seem to be showing all the content.

Hi Glenn, is there anyone that could help do the migration for me as my host has said they can't do this after the sales guy said they could and I bought a hosting package and a VB license and now I'm stuck with my phpbb forum on the new host.

              Thanks in advance.

If the hosts told you they could migrate you from php to vBulletin then they were not telling the truth and you should probably take that up with them if they sold you a product on that basis.
Migrating from one software platform to another is a complicated and specialist operation and I'd be amazed if any web host actually employed anyone with the necessary skills and experience to do it - if they did you;d be paying for it somewhere down the line.

Probably best to contact Glenn via his own site www.vbmods.rocks as technically discussion of paid services isn't permitted here.

                  Hi Mark,

Thanks for your detailed response and yes I agree this needs taking up with my host but they are adamant they can't do it.

I will contact Glenn via his site then and appreciate your help.

Yep I should stress when I say 'take it up with them' I meant regarding costs, mis-selling etc - definitely do not have them do it even if they then decide they can. They will not have the skills and experience to do it.

I've already approached them about it and they have just said that the sales guy misunderstood my question - easy way out if you ask me and I wish I had saved the online chat messages.

Anyway I need to look forward now as I have paid for a VB license and can't use it(

I believe you are referring to the Categories. In the Site Builder under Channels, create a new forum, click ADD. Then below where it shows what you've created, click Make Category. You will need to drag the forums you have already created underneath that Category.

For further assistance, please post in the appropriate support section below: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/foru...roubleshooting. This section is for pre-sales only.
