Hello, everyone,
I am interested in possibly using vBulletin Cloud for a community forum, and had some questions about the features available on this version of the software. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend.
I am interested in possibly using vBulletin Cloud for a community forum, and had some questions about the features available on this version of the software. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.
- Per Thread/Per Forum Notification Settings: I know it is possible to set user-level notification settings with regard to frequency of email/what is emailed, etc. Is it possible to set overriding notifications on individual threads or sub-forums? That is, say my default, user-level notification setting is to receive daily notifications (in other words, a daily digest) of everything I'm following. Would it be possible for me to indicate that on a specific thread that I'm more interested in, I would like instant notification by email every time there is activity?
- Post/Reply-To-Post by Email: Is there any way, either in the core software or some sort of add-on, to enable starting a new thread/replying to an existing thread by email? We've previously used traditional mailing list software, and for some of our users this has been the only way they have interacted with the group.
- Search strings "not restrictive enough:" I'm having an issue with some forums I'm on that are run on vBulletin with certain search strings not being "restrictive enough" and being ignored. If they're the whole string, the search fails. If there's anything else in the string, it's searched by itself. I would understand if it was risking returning too many results, but I've tested it in a forum with a very low post count, where the number of hits for the string was less than 10. It seems to be running the string against a list of words, not doing a calculation based on server load. The word I tried was "dog," and it wouldn't let me search it. Is there any way to turn this off, or set it to be based on potential database over-pressure rather than an arbitrary list of very common words? Or at the very least, is it possible to modify the list of words that are not restrictive enough?
- Thread Branching: Does vBulletin Cloud support (perhaps only as a per-user option) thread branching? That is, instead of a flat thread where the only way to follow the conversation is via quotes of previous messages, there is some mechanism to show who is replying to who in a tree structure?
- Attachment File Types: Is there any limitation in the software on what kind of file types can be attached to messages? Can an admin disallow certain filetypes?
