Hi everyone, here's the predicament -
I was contacted by a friend who is part of a group of people who inherited a VB forum, and while they've been able to use the software from an admin POV with no problems, they obviously haven't been given the knowledge to keep things running behind the scenes of the VPS they use, they just pay a bill and the system works. Well, at some point over the last week they've been caught out due to a vulnerability somewhere on the system and the host locked them out and refused access until they upgraded PHP to a non-ancient version.
The version of VB they are using is 3.7.2 and I've located most of the information (I have control of the email address it was registered through, however vbulletin.com's 'Forgot Password' function isn't working, so I can't log into the control panel) but I'm aware that the license expired many years ago so I presume nothing is available to them other than ability to pay for services, which is fine.
Right now I have access to the fileset and database and backed these up locally, but 3.7.2 isn't compatible with the version of PHP they're now running so the forum isn't responsive at all. I'm wondering what the upgrade path is for getting them back online? Due to them not wanting to deal with the VPS side of things anymore, would vbulletin's hosted forums be able to take files from such an old version and host them from now on? If not, is there an easy upgrade path for such an old fileset to the latest and most secure version if they repay a license fee?
Thanks
