It's impossible to say, really. Like you, I'm hoping so, but as it will still be a beta, I don't think anybody can guarantee you that it will be fully functional.

I've tested both betas so far, and it's getting there, but the problems that remain are biggies.

fwiw, I bought vB back in Feb, right around the time an iB3 converter was starting to be discussed. I bought it largely on the premise that it would be out soon, and after a few weeks of waiting, simply got fed up with using Ikonboard. We just went ahead and started using vB in early March and have maintained the iB forum simply as an archive until the converter's ready. We haven't missed a beat, and eventually, I'll just be able to get all that info imported seamlessly with what we've already built up.

There's really no harm in buying vB now and "getting started", regardless of when the converter ultimately comes out.

    Just my $0.02

Hmmm, that is just making me want to wait. I don't want to buy it and be waiting 6 months for a converter....

John has just announced in the vBulletin announcement board that the importer is available.

We are happy to announce that we now have a working importer for ikonboard version 3. It is available in the members area for download
              ..
The code is slightly untested, so count it as beta quality code at the moment.

Well, I tried the public import script for iB3. I succesfully imported everything except user passwords, pm's and polls. I think that the most important is the passwords. Why is that? I looked into the database and I noticed that all users have the same password, so the script did not convert the passwords and inserted a common one.

Also, in the posts, the emoticons have been replaced with the following: "?<!--emo&???--><img src="url_of_site/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->". I see this text instead of the smilie! This is ok only if I have HTML enabled in the forum. I don't have -and I don't want to have- HTML enabled. Is there anything I can do about that?

I don't mind If I loose polls and pm's. I want to solve the trouble with passwords and smilies. Any help would be appreciated!

Without the passwords converting, the members would need to sign up again...so this is still not useable for me..

Can't you just have everyone turn in a password request?

I mean if someone hits your forum and they can't login they are going to put in a password request, which will reset their password and they are back up and running, right???

Yes, it's right but I think that many un-experienced users will have problem with it...

With the difference in password encryption it is going to be hard t do it any other way...

What about the smilies? Is there any way to fix it? I can fix it if I edit the posts from the database but I have 15000+ posts! I would like to know if there is any command in mySQL for replacements. If yes, I could do replacements in "posts" table. Anyone??
