Too many sessions

Hello,

We are using vbulletin 3.8.7 patch 2 and we are facing a mismatch between active users below not matching with the sessions in database. Today when we saw 54.000 users active(users + guests), there were 113k sessions inside session table which is almost double. This makes our database server to have hard times on peak times of the day. What are those extra sessions? Is this a bug, system error or something that should be?
