As has been previously stated, we do not know what the pricing model will be. As such, we cannot answer questions regarding prices at this time - as soon as these are known, they will be communicated.

Since the first day that we have sold vBulletin 4, we have said that a vBulletin 4 gives you access to all versions of vBulletin 4. Should you choose to upgrade to vBulletin 5, a license fee will be required. We haven't waivered from that stance.Translations provided by Google.

Update: Just talked to sales, completely unwavering on price of soon to be outdated software. "The price to upgrade to the forum is $175 and to the Publishing Suite is $250. Unfortunately there are no other discounts offered associated with the upgrade pricing." As much as i like VB software, i just don't see the value in this. Not when Joe NeverhadVBinhislife can buy the software for not much more. Hope there are a lot of "Joe's" to offset all the old customers.Last edited by Ron Lovings; Mon 23 Jul '12, 12:51pm.Comment

I would consider that baseless speculation. There is a VB 4.3.x release still expected and who knows what else from there. When the 3rd generation iPad was released the 2nd gens didn't stop working, they are still excellent tablets. You will have no need to upgrade to VB5 this year or for some time to come. Plenty of people still run 3.x forums to this day.Comment

Given the excellent developmental direction that the product has taken recently, and the work being done by the current vBulletin team, I strongly expect I'll buy a vB5 licence when it becomes available, to give me the option of upgrading to vb5 as and when it suits my site to do so.
I would strongly expect I'd want to go to vB4.3 first but I can't really say until vb5 is actually out. Either way I will buy the licence.MARK.B

vB5 is slated for this year, i.e. <= 31/Dec/2012 23:59, so I doubt that it is immanent.
vB4.3 has been discussed. 4.2.1 is very close.
We know from what has been posted (screen shots etc.) that vB5 is very different to previous vB versions.
Best bet go with 4.2 now and worry about vB5 next year.environment: Centos 6.9, Apache v2.4.25, PHP 5.6.30/xCache, MariaDB 10.22 -- vB5 Connect Licensed

I don't see what the fuss is about. When vBulletin 5 lands, no one is going to force you in to purchasing it, it's totally your own call whether you want to purchase vBulletin 5 or not.
Also, someone mentioned free upgrades. You were promised free upgrades for vBulletin 4 not vBulletin 5.Aakif NazirComment

I agree, 4.2 is exceptionally good and there is 4.2.1 with some significant augmenting of 4.2.0's new features, plus the staff have confirmed 4.3 is still to come, and may even come after vB5.
vB5 is the next generation, the next iteration, it's not necessarily something everyone needs to jump on the minute it comes out. vB4 isn't going to suddenly "die" on vB5 release date.
Buy 4.2 and get software which is once again world class, and then once vb5 is released move to it as and when (or if) it suits your site.MARK.B
