Hi,
I have been debating in upgrading my forum (www.njstangers.org) to VB 4 but I have a few questions:
- Is there any way to add custom tabs like I currently have on mine (instead of having one insanely long forum page?)
- Handlng all the Custom Code I've added (I know most won't work on the new version, will the professional installation by VB aid in any of this....either altering it or removing it)
- Database and all its forum threads and posts, will they be safe? (Highly important since my forum is seo friendly and I get a decent amount of organic traffic)
- Broken Urls --- how do we handle that in the upgrade? Especially due to the VBSEO i'm using (completely useless in 4 since that already has the friendly urls right?)
- Handling Adsense (ads implementation) does it have neat format unlike VB 3.8 or will I have to hand code it as well?
I know there's many other questions but I can't remember.
My other reasoning for upgrading includes:
- the forum seems to be lagging and running very slow (I assume its due to all the database calls due to the custom codes it has) - lots of members keep complaining about this
- the forum has no mobile app (hence I can't run adsense on it) -- currently using tapatalk (which is great but I can't use ads and my mobile traffic is skyrocketing....close to 50% or more now!)
- lots of errors on the site from broken links I can't find to other bugs that cause issues
- for example, I bought vbadvanced dynamics and I'm having an issue with getting images to display public-ally so they won't get indexed (after I add 300 threads to it) -- if I could transfer those to the new VB 4 Blog that would save me so much time.
Sorry for the long message, just trying to make sure this would be a smart choice to upgrade or stay where I am and try to workout the bugs.
